New Born Baby Holds Docs Finger Throughout The Checkup! : Corona Chronicle #004

Shweta Patil of Alibaug had her labour pains recently and was rushed to the hospital by her husband, Ketan during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The couple already lost one of their infant within hours of birth. The lady was diabetic and had to take medicines to keep her sugar level under control and having a right care was very crucial for them at the right time.

The gynaecologist who delivered the couple’s first child, needed help and called a neonatologist and paediatrician, Dr. Rajendra Chandorkar for assistance.

A baby boy was delivered by a c-section and weighed 3.1 kg. The doctors were relieved by this but it wasn’t for long, the newborn developed respiratory problems and turned blue. The issue was called transient tachypnea of newborn (TTN).

The baby was in urgent neonatal care and there was no means of transportation amid the lockdown.

The doctor was determined to save the baby’s life and took him to his hospital on his two wheeler.

The baby was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and was supported by oxygen. His condition stabilized after 12 hours.

The doctor says that the whole experience was very overwhelming for him because the baby was holding onto his finger throughout the examination as if he wanted to be assured that he is going to fine and he will hold his mother’s finger and learn how to walk one day.

Doctors are considered second to God and that was proved by this doctor during the hardest time.
